The Story of Brandy Norwood: THEE Vocal Bible

Image
The Story of Brandy Norwood: THEE Vocal Bible Brandy Rayana Norwood was born on February 11, 1978 in McComb, Mississippi. Her mother Sonja Norwood worked as an HR specialist and her father was an established gospel singer. So, it was no surprise where her musical traits came from. At an early age, she started to sing in the church. The Norwood’s realized their daughter was musically gifted so they relocated to Carson, CA at a better chance of discovery. She would be booked on a number of talent shows and would often perform songs from her idol Whitney Houston. By the time she reached her preteens, she was ready to shop for labels to sign. Her parents tried nearly every label but they said no, for one reason or another. She got her big break at a National Black Reunion where she performed the Greatest Love of All. She was discovered by Ricky Minor. Around that time, she was hired to sing background for an upcoming R&B kid group named Immature. Chris Stokes, who was managing Im...

Mariah Carey: Here For It All Album Review (2025)

Image
Welcome back everyone, today we are going to continue going through Mariah’s entire catalog with album #15 Here For It All. Just when I thought I was done with Mariah’s catalog I get surprised with another album. Mariah has been getting honored left and right in 2025, and for once it had nothing to do with her holiday glitch. IHeartRadio, BET Awards, VMAs at last honored her with some form of an icon award. Back to this album, when I was first heard of Mariah doing another album, it surprised me that it wasn’t another holiday album, given that holiday music has been her money maker. But as I been saying about Mariah albums since the Chanteuse project, this is late period Mariah. It’s where Mariah don’t care about critics (like she ever did) or charts or sales. This album was for her and her lambs. Hope it’s worth to be here for it all. Mariah Carey “Here For It All” 1.        Mi: Opening track and Mariah is talking about the luxurious life. She doe...

Lose Control: The Most Stubborn Hit of All-Time

Image
2025 has been describe as one of the worst years for new music. When you look at the eventual year-end list for 2025 at least a fourth of that chart will consist of songs that was released last year or the subject of today’s video two years. Lose Control set the record of the longest charting song in Billboard history by a huge margin. On the outside it’s a fine enough song but how did this song last 100 plus weeks on the charts? We are going to go through this song’s journey and at the end, I’ll explain why the longer this song stays on the charts will hurt him in the future. So, without further ado here… Lose Control: The Most Stubborn Hit of All-Time Before we can even talk about the song itself, we need to understand how Teddy Swims got to this position. Real name Jaten Collins Dimsdale, he was an aspiring musician from Conyers, GA. He’ll spent most of his come up joining local bands from Atlanta, but none of them were for the long term. On his own, Jaten befriended Addy ...

Fast Times At Ridgemont High Literally, the first second of this movie we get hit in the face with “We Got the Beat” by The Go-Gos as the film kicks off at the Ridgemont Mall. Start off with Mike. Brenda Holloway: Motown's Forgotten Princess

Image
Mary Wells, Diana Ross, Tammi Terrell, Martha Reeves. Those were some of the leading ladies of Motown Records during their prime. The all accumulate timeless records that hold true. But also, during the 60s, there was another female vocalist from the label but never reached the heights of those mentioned and that lady was Brenda Holloway. I was watching a YouTube video month back, and this person mentioned her name in one of her videos when discussing female R&B when she discussed Motown female vocalist, I was shocked when she mentioned Brenda Holloway. Always felt like she got lost in the shuffle, part of it has to do with her being California based, but she is an artist who deserves her flowers. Today we are going to do just that by going through her musical journey. So, without further ado, this is the story of Brenda Holloway, Motown’s Forgotten Princess. Brenda Holloway (Motown’s Forgotten Star) Brenda Holloway was born on June 21, 1946 in Atascadero, CA. By the age ...

What Happened to the Albums Released on 9/11?

Image
A couple years ago, Willa Ford did an interview on why her music career never took off like Britney, Christina, or even Jessica Simpson. She stated in paraphrasing, the reason for her career not taking off the way it did was because she released a single “Did Ya Understand That” on September 11, 2001. That song was supposed to be the follow-up single to her moderately catchy debut “I Wanna Be Bad”. After making this comment, Willa caught a ton of backlash with Charlamagne tha God be the biggest giving her the dubious honor of Donkey of the Day. People lost more on 9/11 than a short-lived music career, families were changed because of the attacks, protocol was changed after these attacks, New York was changed after the attacks. But today, instead of going through Willa Ford’s failed music career, I want to debunk some of her claims on why her music failed because there were plenty of music that came out on that day. We are going to shine the light on all the albums that were relea...
