Cadillac Records Movie Recap (2008)

Image
Cadillac Records Movie Recap (2008)   This is the story on how two unlikely forces team up and change the course of black music forever. Cedric the Entertainer, who plays Willie Dixon, help narrates this story on how rock music originates from black music. First of this party is Leonard Chess, he’s a Polish immigrant who has a dream of opening a nightclub for Negros in Chicago. The other is McKinnley Morganfield, but we all would know him as Muddy Waters. He’s a sharecropper from Mississippi. One day, Alan Womack wants to record him for the Library of Congress and after this he realized he has a gift. After this experience, he packs everything and moves to the big city of Chicago. But once there, the folks in Chicago aren’t fond of this as they call it “sharecropper” music. But a woman name Gineva Wade wants to give him the time of day and they do things that I can’t say on YouTube. After their love making, she given him an amp, that way everyone hears his sound. Len get...

What Happened to Mya?

Image
Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah and Mya. These were the leading ladies of the Y2K era and while I already cover two of these, it’s time we do another. Recently Mya has been making news about her lifestyle and her promoting self-love but how did we get there. Today we are going to go through her journey and career, so without further ado. What Happened to Mya (Force flings, Sabotaged, Finding Self-Love) Mya Marie Harrison was born on October 10, 1979 in Washington, DC. Her father was a singer and her mother was an accountant. Growing up for Mya wasn’t easy. Throughout her childhood, having a black father and white mother was still frowned upon, thus dealt with bullying. But as an escape, Mya got involved in tap dancing, violin lessons and ballet in her youth. At the age of ten, she joined a dancing troupe called TWA (Tappers with Attitudes). So, it’s best said that she became a dance protégé. As she got older, her father discovered that she could sing. Realizing that there’s much more...

Mariah Carey: Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse (2014)

Image
Mariah Carey “Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse” 1.        Cry.: This album starts off with the piano ballad known as Cry. I want you to take a wild guess on what the song is about. If you guessed “longing for your lover in the past, even though you have moved on” you would be partially correct. Only this time she said we both break down and cry. The ballad does remind me of some of her older ballads that were appreciated at first but grew stale over time. Kind of like this song, it’s a harmless ballad but it’s one of those you heard of one you heard them all. (DECENT) 2.        Faded: I said something like this on my previous review, this is definition of late period song. Produced by Mike Will Made It, this song is about a lover not being loyal to her as Mariah believes that he’s fading out to view. The outro points that out and you know what’s crazy, I don’t mind this one, the concept work the production isn’t...

Mariah Carey: Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (2009)

Image
Welcome back everyone, today we are going to continue with Mariah Carey’s album cycle with album #12 Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. For the first time since Music Box, I have little or nothing leading up to this album. I guess after MC2 didn’t do the same critically or commercially as Mimi did, she quickly jumped back into the studio to work on a new album. Should note that from here on out we are entering late period Mariah where things cool down for her musically and critically.  Mariah Carey “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” 1.        Betcha Gon' Know (The Prologue): I intentionally thought about skipping this song because I saw the word prologue, I thought it was going to be a regular intro. But it’s not so that why we are here. This is an infidelity song Mariah finding her man cheating on her with an unclothed woman and threatening to expose him. I want to say this was a weird choice to open up the album. Sure we got the illusion involving th...

What Happened to LeAnn Rimes?

Image
What Happened to LeAnn Rimes? Margaret LeAnn Rimes was born on August 28, 1982 in Jackson, MS, the only child of Wilbur and Belinda Rimes. Wilbur was a talented singer and despite never pursuing a music career, he carried his musical traits to his only daughter. At the early age of two, she sang “Jesus Loves Me” and her father was very impressed. He enrolled his daughter in vocal and dance classes and by the age of five was performing in talent shows, which she won thanks to a tap-dancing routine. After winning the talent show, her dad started to take her seriously and became her de-facto manager & producer. They moved to Dallas, TX and would be booked regularly on Johnnie High's Country Music Revue. They did this to get her name out there. She also performed the National Anthem for the Dallas Cowboys regularly. In 1991, she released her debut album Everybody’s Sweetheart independently. Thanks to this album, LeAnn got discovered by promoter Bill Mack. Her father Wilbur aske...

Cool As Ice Movie Recap (1991)

Image
Cool As Ice Movie Recap The movie begins with Johnny Van Owen, I guess Vanilla wanted to make a play on his name Robert Van Winkle. He’s a rapper and he start the movie off by rapping the theme song for the movie. Naomi Campbell actually did background vocals for this song and it wasn’t a C+C Factory situation. In fact, she a whole music career. It didn’t go anywhere, wait a minute this aint her video. After he get’s done with his show or montage or whatever they do, Johnny and his crew hope on his bike. While in a small town he catches an eye for a brunette on a horse. Johnny is a douche because his showing off, the horse got scared and causes this girl to fall of the horse. She justifiably gut punches him and Johnny assumes that he is her type. One of the crew’s bike starts to malfunction they drive to a repair shop and they hang out. They pretty much spend the movie here. They crew take the whole make you feel like home. Johnny then spots the women he help fall off the hor...
